How to argue for a case in a written text

The object of the lesson is to teach the students how they can argue for a case by referring to statistics, similar situations, experts, and research in their written texts.

The class should brainstorm together in class, the teacher notes their ideas on the blackboard. The students should then write one or more paragraphs for or against a case in order to learn how to refer to sources in their writing. They will also practice listing their sources.

This is meant as a preparation or practice to write the main part of an argumentative text.
