  3. A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, (novel online; full text)

    The material can be used to study literature and global issues.

    The book is written by a former child soldier. The language is not diffiicult and can be easily understood by pupils. Ishmael tells the story of his life in Sierra Leone and later in Canada.

    The interview with Ishmael Beah (NDLA/FYR) can be useful too.

    Students can compare and contrast Ishmael Beah and the fictional character of Dia from Blood Diamond.

    The website is a helpful resource in studying literature. It has good animations and audios. Simplified texts are always provided.

  7. Lyrics Training

    Lyrics Training er ei nettside der elevane kan øve grammatikk og ordforråd ved hjelp av musikkvideoar. Det finnast musikkvideoar frå mange ulike sjangrar, felles for alle er at sangteksten er synleg. Ein kan velje mellom ulik vanskegrad på oppgåvene (beginner, intermediate, advanced og expert) og mellom ulike oppgåver. T.d. fyll inn manglande ord, eller vel rett ord av fire alternativ. Elevane kan også konkurrere med seg sjølv, på tid og poeng-score. Musikkvideoen stoppar opp til eleven har skrive inn ordet/valt eit alternativ, før den fortset.

  9. Love Story by Erich Segal (audio,1hour 20 min.)

    The audio of the famous book by Erich Segal (with subtitles) is a good source for learning English and English literature in particular.

    Pupils can work with the novel individually, in groups or in class. The level of difficulty is 3 , i.e. the text is quite easy.

    The novel discusses many themes such as love, the American Dream, education, social inequality, challenges and so on.

    Love Story can be used in vocational classes. Those students, who have problems reading long texts, can practice listening comprehension.

    Reading and listening to the audio can help students with special needs to improve their skills in English. Moreover, the book is funny and popular among teens.

  13. Teaching English - British Council

    Nettstad frå British Council med idear, ressursar og materiale for undervisning i engelsk. Særskilt god på litteratur og poesi, med tekstar, lydfiler, før- og etterlesingsaktivitetar og forslag til arbeid med teksten (lesson plans, teacher's guide etc.). Både kjende og nye forfattarar/tekstar. T.d. The Landlady av Roald Dahl, med lydfiler, tekst og oppgåver.

  14. The House on Mango Street, audiobook read by the author. The website offers many audiotexts.

    The audiobook is a good source to work with a short stories by Hispanics.

    The chapters are short and can be taught separately.

    Combining listening and reading is an essential way in improving English skills in the differetiated

    classroom.
