    The material can be used to study literature and global issues.

    The book is written by a former child soldier. The language is not diffiicult and can be easily understood by pupils. Ishmael tells the story of his life in Sierra Leone and later in Canada.

    The interview with Ishmael Beah (NDLA/FYR) can be useful too.

    Students can compare and contrast Ishmael Beah and the fictional character of Dia from Blood Diamond.

    "Britain's Youngest Head Chef" er eit undervisningsopplegg knytt til den timeslange dokumentaren frå 2012 ved same namn. Elevane jobbar med grunnleggjande ferdigheiter knytt til lytting og munnleg aktivitet. Elevane ser dokumentaren og finn svar på utdelte spørsmål om handlingane og personane i filmen. Til slutt diskuterer ein filmen og spørsmåla i lag og oppsummerer.

  17. Lamb and Jamie Oliver

    Bakgrunn: I RM programfag lærer klassen hvordan man parter lam og gris, om forskjellige muskelgrupper, om kjøttstykker, hvor de kommer fra, og hvordan de eventuelt kan brukes i matretter. Klassen skal lage matretter på kjøkkenet.

    Beskrivelse: Dette er et 2 timers opplegg (90 minutter) som knytter videosnutter, lytting, snakking og skriving om programfaget til kompetansemål i engelsk og praksis på skolekjøkkenet.

    Fokus er på å lære faguttrykk gjennom media, diskutere mat i sammenheng/kontekst og i samarbeid med elevene.

  18. Child Labour in the Past: written communication (writing in FYR)

    The activity targets basic skills: writing, listening, speaking and IT literacy.

    Pupils use laptops with headphones to collect some materials from the Internet.  Afterwards the findings are discussed in small groups or pairs.

    The materials from the Internet should help write a letter (Written communication)

    Pupils change their identity by stepping into the shoes of a child from Victorian Britain and write a letter to a friend. The worksheet has  some questions to help pupils to write a successful letter.

    Dette opplegget kan brukes både på Vg1 og Vg2 Service og samferdsel, i samarbeid med engelsk. Opplegget kan også tilpasses norskfaget. 

     Elevene må jobbe etter læreplanmål i både engelsk og programfagene sine, og de skal jobbe casebasert.

  20. Brakes: oral communication in FYR (mechanics)

    Pupils practise different basic skills: writing, talking, reading and IT literacy.

    Warm up activity: 3 min. writing about brakes

    Pair work: discussing questions in pairs (the set of questions aboout the brake system)

    Role play: pupils write a dialogue between a mechanic and an American tourist that has faulty brakes.

    Follow up activity: Pupils can read Drive in a motorcar by Roald Dahl (short story analysis)

    The website www.wikihow gives step by step instructions on different operations in the garage.
