Confidentiality as an Ethical Problem - Healthcare, Childhood and Youth Development

Beskrivelse: 

Et tverrfaglig opplegg (engelsk, kommunikasjon og samhandling og yrkesutøving) for helse og oppvekstfag om etikk med taushetsplikt som utgangspunkt. Elevene skal lære å diskutere et etisk problem på en systematisk måte der de anvender et metodeskjema. Opplegget øver muntlige og kommunikative ferdigheter. Elevene jobber i grupper og skal presentere resultatet for klassen. Medelevene deltar i evalueringen av presentasjonen. Metodikken i dette opplegget er overførbar til andre aktuelle etiske problemstillinger på helse- og oppvekstfag.

Læringsmål:

  • Learn to discuss an ethical problem using ethical approaches (method sheet)
  • Learn to understand principles of confidentiality and its implications for health-care professionals

Forberedelser:

Students: It would be an advantage if the students have looked at guidelines and Norwegian laws about “taushetsplikt” in their “HO programfag” before starting this project.

Teacher: Copy the different work sheets to be used in the lesson (see ressurser)

Læringsaktiviteter:

  1. The teacher has to present the ethical method to the students. The “Example of an Ethical Problem: Capital Punishment” can be used as an example. Presentation of the ethical Method Sheeets: Ethics - Making a Choice and vocabulary. It would be a good idea to let the students fill in the Work Sheet - Ethical Problem using a very clear and simple ethical problem, such as “cheating on a test”. (1 lesson)
  2. Brainstorming/class discussion: What does “confidentiality” mean in health care? (15 minutes)
  3. Work in groups: Check out the Internet links about confidentiality (see ressurser) and look for facts and arguments you can use. Discuss confidentiality and fill in the Worksheet - Ethical Problem (2 lessons).
  4. Present the group’s work to the rest of the class. Class discussion and summing up (1 lesson)

Peer assessment:

  • Did the group present their arguments in a clear and satisfactory manner?
  • What can be improved?

The teacher gives the groups a mark for the content and oral performance.
