Students will plan a 15-30 minute lesson in basic English for 1st graders (6 year olds). Students will have to decide the best way to teach their chosen topic. They will be asked to write a plan for the lesson, as well as their reasons for the choices they made. The lessons may be carried out in practise as well, either in an actual 1st grade class/kindergarden or within their own class with the rest of the students playing 1st graders.
The class brainstorms topics within English that might be suitable to teach first graders. When a list of topics has been made, the class should reflect on whether the topics are too difficult.
Students go into groups of 3. Each group picks a topic and makes a lesson plan. They will have to choose methods and reflect on the best ways to teach these topics to a 1st grader.
Topics that might be suitable:
students should consider:
should they split the class into groups?
For a written evaluation, you may evaluate the written work the students must do. Students must write a written plan of their lesson, and justify their choices based on the developmental psychology they know from their vocational classes.
For an oral evaluation, the students may execute the lessons on each other. The other groups are 1st graders, and the group try out their lesson.
If possible, students can execute their lessons in their work placement.
